Spotify has a up-to-date AI tool that will create playlists for users based on text suggestions.
Android and iPhone users just need to enter their suggestions in the chat – “relaxing music to lift my mood during allergy season” or “playlist that makes me feel like the main character” are two examples of suggestions Spotify suggests his announcement since yesterday – and pouf!playlist.
Spotify’s leap into artificial intelligence didn’t come out of nowhere. This launched its AI DJ last yearwhich selects songs for users to play next based on their listening habits, while also providing a bit of chatter between songs, like any good radio DJ should – although the “good” part was for discussion. The music streaming giant was reportedly curates AI-generated playlists last fall. The company began quietly testing the feature in December, but that tranquility was disturbed when The TikToker accidentally discovered this, calling it “ChatGPT Spotify” and spreading the word on social media and news outlets. While Spotify expected price increases starting from the end of April apparently because of the audiobooks feature, Jess Weatherbed of The Verge suggested that it was a up-to-date AI feature could also be a deciding factor.
Music streaming rivals are also exploring artificial intelligence, but they are much further behind. Apparently Apple was you want to apply the generative AI features in Apple Music since last year, but no further progress has been reported, and Apple did not immediately respond to Quartz’s request for comment. Amazon has partnered with a music company that uses artificial intelligence last year to create AI-generated sleep playlists.
The other side of AI
Spotify’s AI tool may be a plus for users, but it’s also a nail in the coffin playlist curators who are slowly fading into the shadow of algorithmic music selection. Last year’s layoffs at Spotify included people who created playlists– reports Bloomberg. And the development of artificial intelligence capabilities, the offspring of the algorithm, will likely only make things worse for human curators.
Spotify’s announcement came just a week after a group of high-profile musicians, including Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Stevie Wonder, wrote a letter calls on platforms not to develop or implement technology that uses artificial intelligence to generate music. The Spotify tool does not support AI-generated music, only AI-generated playlists of human-made music. However, Spotify still faces hurdles when it comes to moderating AI-created songs. The company last spring he had to record a hit song who imitated the voices of Drake and The Weeknd.
