On Nov. 8, the U.S. Senate held an unusual Saturday session to address the government shutdown after more than 1,500 flights in the United States were canceled due to a government order to reduce operations at 40 U.S. airports due to safety concerns.
By Saturday evening, another 1,000 flights had been canceled the following day, November 9.
