Multiple people injured as Russian drone attack sets off large fires in Kyiv

Russia launched a massive drone attack overnight on Saturday. This damaged several buildings in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

Klitschko said the drone had attacked private property and non-resident buildings, causing injuries to at least three people.

Footage from Ukraine’s emergency services showed crews still trying to put out the fire after sunrise. Three warehouses in the city said they sparked a fire in the attack.

It came amid wider strikes in some Ukrainian regions.

Ukrainian military general staff said Russia launched 88 drones on targets across the country, of which 56 have fallen.

Mayor Ikhor Telekov said one person was minorly injured in the northeastern city of Kharkiv when a Russian drone was attacked there.

Ukrainian Hortitosia Operations Strategy Group, which forms Ukrainian ground forces, reported on Saturday that Russian troops were reorganising to prepare for a new military attack in the Kharkiv region.

They said in a statement that while no aggressive actions have been taken so far, the Russian troops are replenishing their troops to resume operations.

European countries vowed to send more funds of 21 billion euros on Friday to help Ukraine continue to fight Russian invasions. At the same time, US envoy Steve Witkov was in St. Petersburg to pursue peace negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russia’s state communications agency Ria Novosti said Witkoff’s meeting with Putin lasted for four and a half hours, and the two said they discussed the “aspects” that would end the war without providing details.

The Russian army has an advantage in Ukraine, and it is the fourth year of the war. Ukraine approved the US ceasefire proposal, but Russia effectively blocked it by imposing widespread conditions. The European government has accused Putin of dragging him in.

Russia’s delay in accepting Washington’s proposal has irritated Trump and encouraged doubts about whether Putin actually wants to stop the fight and end the war of more than three years.
