Samsung has officially confirmed that many 2023 Galaxy devices should receive Galaxy AI, a novel suite of AI tools, by the end of the month.
Samsung had previously announced that it plans to release One UI 6.1, which will include all novel AI features, on the Galaxy S23 and other Galaxy devices last month. However, the company took further action post on his Korean website this confirms that the premiere should take place at the end of March. Now we finally have even more confirmation, as Samsung enthusiasts have shared screenshots of pop-ups explaining when the novel update will be available.
It is possible that we will see a world premiere. However, vast updates like this are known to be rolled out by companies, so it could take several days for the update to roll out to Samsung phones in other parts of the world.
The news that Samsung is bringing Galaxy AI to some of its older Galaxy devices is obviously very electrifying, especially for those who haven’t upgraded to the novel Galaxy S24 Ultra or any other model in the S24 line. In addition to Galaxy AI, One UI 6.1 will also bring other updates to last year’s Galaxy devices, although the AI features will certainly be the highlight for many users.
Here’s an overview of all the phones Samsung confirmed this earlier will receive One UI 6.1:
-
Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, S23 Ultra
-
Galaxy S23 FE
-
Galaxy Z Fold5
-
Galaxy Z Flip 5
-
Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus and S9 Ultra
Samsung hasn’t mentioned any plans to discontinue any AI features in any of its older devices, which sets it apart from some competitors. Google has come down difficult on the AI features in the Pixel 8, even revealing that the regular Pixel 8 won’t get the Gemini Nano and most of its upcoming AI features due to “hardware limitations.”
It’s unclear what these limitations are, as both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro apply the same chipset. On the other hand, Samsung seems to have no problems running newer AI features on older technologies, as all the phones and tablets on the list above apply different hardware than the Galaxy S24, where Galaxy AI debuted.
Features available in Galaxy AI include translation tools, novel photo editing tools, and Google Circle to Search. It’s disappointing that we don’t have a release date set yet, but at least owners of older Galaxy devices can expect AI features to arrive on their devices sooner rather than later.
