However, in the end, the arrangement did not come to fruition. Sehwag said the main reason the deal failed was because Sky Sports “couldn’t afford” his services.
During a candid exchange on the Club Prairie Fire podcast on YouTube, Sehwag found himself in the company of cricketing greats such as Adam Gilchrist AND Michael VaughanSharing a revealing anecdote, he mentioned that he once informed Sky Sports that he simply couldn’t pay his asking price.
Virender Sehwag jumps into Club Prairie Fire
“Sky Sports called once and said we’d love to have you on our panel. I said you can’t afford me, they said ‘no, no, tell us your price’, I said ‘10,000 pounds (10.41 lakhs) a day’. They concluded, ‘Yes, you’re right, we can’t afford you,'” Sehwag said.
Former opener Sehwag also trashed Gilchrist during the conversation when he asked about the participation of Indian players in the remaining T20 leagues.
“Do you see a time when Indian players will be allowed to play in other T20 leagues?” Gilchrist asked.
Sehwag’s response to the question was quick and memorable. With a bit of blithe exaggeration, he remarked, “No, we don’t have to. We are prosperous people and we don’t go to indigent countries for other leagues.”
Sehwag also narrated the moment when he rejected an offer from Bash’s Huge League because the amount offered is insufficient.
“I still remember being dropped from the Indian team and playing in the IPL. Then I got an offer from BBL that I should take part in the Huge Bash, I said OK how much money, they said $100,000.
“I said I could spend this money on a vacation, and even yesterday’s bill was for a larger amount,” the 45-year-old jokingly revealed.
