You can pay a monthly fee to utilize ChatGPT, but the free version can often handle more than enough for you to experience what generative AI has to offer. Without paying, you can utilize OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 model and ask ChatGPT to create engaging, witty, useful or moving results. And now you can literally ask this question out deafening.
See, while the free version is useful, there are more great features hidden in the company’s $20/month ChatGPT Plus plan. Without paying, you lose out on the more powerful GPT-4 model, plugin support, and the ability to connect ChatGPT to the Internet, among other things.
Fortunately, even inside crisis in the companyOpenAI has managed to make one feature available to all users that was previously only available in Plus: voice chat.
ChatGPT voice chat is available to everyone
In September, OpenAI made voice chat available to ChatGPT Plus users. This feature replaces ChatGPT’s text-based interface with something like a voice assistant: when you talk to ChatGPT, you will see a responsive wave. The assistant will automatically recognize when you’re done speaking and switch to a “thought bubble” interface in response to your question or request.
The company always planned to make voice chat available to free users, and although it took several months, the feature is finally available:

Voice chat, actually, no Down something more (or something different) than text-based ChatGPT, but makes interacting with the chatbot feel a bit more natural. Or at least brings us closer to the real world Her situation.
How to utilize ChatGPT voice chat
Note: I utilize ChatGPT Plus to navigate voice chat, so it’s possible that there are some discrepancies between my experience and those presented in the free version. That said, here’s a primer on how to utilize it.
This feature is only available on the official ChatGPT app for iOS AND Android, not a web app, so download the app to your phone first. Once you’ve opened the app and set everything up, start a recent chat and look for the headphones icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Voice chat will be available starting Tuesday, so you should see it once you upgrade the app.
Tap the headphones and you’ll see a pop-up explaining the “voice chat” feature. To continue, press Select a voice. You have five different choices: Juniper, Breeze, Cove, Ember and Sky, whoever sounds remarkably like Scarlett Johansson. (Someone from OpenAI Really likes Her.)
Once you’ve chosen your voice and proceeded, you’re done! By default, ChatGPT listens for your voice immediately and waits until you finish speaking to continue. However, you can hold the microphone to record your question or request and then release it to ask ChatGPT for a response.
ChatGPT will save a transcript of your voice chat in the main chat, so when you leave the voice chat, you will see your conversation as usual. You’ll be able to tell the difference between voice chat transcripts and text conversations thanks to the microphone and waveform icons next to ChatGPT prompts and responses.
