Confession: I am This the person who pulls his toasty wardrobe out of storage as soon as he gets his first taste of 60-degree weather—or “false spring,” as they call it on the East Coast. I changed in mid-March on a toasty Sunday afternoon. As my clothes were laid out on the bed, something occurred to me: I really miss having nice, luxurious shorts for work. Sure, my dresser is stocked with plenty of styles for lounging around the house, but there aren’t many outfits I can wear to the office or an afternoon coffee meeting. So I’m on a mission to change that – and before temperatures rise.
Let me start by saying that the dress code in my office is quite relaxed – which of course doesn’t apply to everyone. No, I wouldn’t wear cropped jeans, but a mid-thigh silhouette would be great. If you’re looking for something to last longer, we suggest Bermuda style, a 9-to-5 genial trend that’s here to stay this summer. (I was particularly interested in the iterations rendered in leather and linen.)
In terms of styling, I will pair the pants with lightweight cardigans and pullovers, as well as oversized button-down sweatshirts. Stout black loafers – I have a pair from Madewell that get plenty of mileage all year round – and calf-length socks would be the perfect finishing touch.
Which office shorts caught my attention? You’ll just have to keep scrolling to find out. Perhaps one of these pairs will also speak to you.
