Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will face each other in the 1st Qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21. Both teams advanced to 1. qualification after finishing the league stage in the first two places.
While KKR were the first to confirm their place in the knockout stages this year, SRH needed a little more time to get the ‘Q’ and on the last day of the league stage to secure a top-two finish. Going into the final stage of the league on Sunday, May 19, SRH needed a win against Punjab Kings and also required Rajasthan Royals not to secure a victory over KKR.
Rain spoiled RR’s home match against KKR and SRH secured the second spot.
KKR has a good record in the playoffs, SRH is not far behind
KKR qualified for the play-offs for the ninth time, while SRH made the play-offs for the seventh time. So far, KKR has played 13 matches in eight playoffs, winning eight of the 13 matches and losing only five. Meanwhile, SRH recorded victories in five play-off matches from 13 matches.
KKR’s first playoff match was in 2011 when they lost the Eliminator to Mumbai Indians. The following season they made the play-offs once again and this time they came with the title in their hands.
SRH reached the play-offs in their first season in 2013, but also lost the Eliminator. In 2016, they reached the playoffs for the second time and won the title.

KKR vs SRH H2H in IPL playoffs
KKR and SRH have also met thrice in the IPL playoffs, with the latter having a 2-1 advantage over the two-time champions. Sunrisers outclassed Knight Riders in their maiden encounter in the 2016 Eliminator, where SRH won the title.
KKR took revenge in the Eliminator the following season, winning by seven wickets, before SRH took the lead again in the 2nd Qualifier 2018, where they won by 14 runs. SRH advanced to the finals where they lost to the returning Chennai Super Kings.
