It’s the best weekend of the year! No, this is not the weekend I have Taylor Swift performance tickets, this is Le Mans! This means that the brightest and best in motorsport come to France to compete in ridiculously high-octane racing for 24 hours. Are you excited? In preparation for this year’s race, the affluent people of Hagarty prepared a tiny race to show how quick a true Le Mans driver.
The race is one of the classic drag races organized by the insurance company and includes: Cadillac V series. Le Mans racer with some of the fastest supercars including Ferrari296, McLaren 750S ia Porsche 911 Turbo S.
Each of the road-legal cars featured is rated at over 600 horsepower, can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in the blink of an eye, and has all the luxury features you’d expect from a six-figure car. In turn, Caddy includes a sophisticated hybrid powertraina rugged yet functional cockpit that can cover mile after mile 24 Hours of Le Mans…hopefully.
To see how this race-ready pedigree stacks up against the best road cars on the market, Hagarty took them head to head. The showdown began with a test of which road car was the fastest, with Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari competing in a quarter-mile drag race to show off. The Ferrari 296 won, which meant it was selected as the championship road car to take on the Cadillac.
First, Hagarty recreated the same quarter-mile drag race between Ferrari and Cadillac and, quite surprisingly, Ferrari won. He completed the sprint in 10 seconds, making him just a hair slower than Lucid Air Dream version which allowed it to run in 9.9 seconds thanks to the incredible acceleration that can be achieved in an electric car. The Caddy, on the other hand, covered the quarter-mile in 10.3 seconds.
However, at the finish line, Hagarty recorded a Le Mans driver at over 160 miles per hour, which the team says is the fastest speed ever recorded in a quarter-mile run. Clearly, the Caddy has even more to prove, much more.
So Hagarty organized a second race that better reflects the type of acceleration a Le Mans driver is built for. This time, the cars start at a constant speed of 37 miles per hour, which corresponds to the 60 km/h limit for racing cars when driving. leaving the pit lane. This time, the odds are definitely in Cadillac’s favor.
Once both cars have passed each other’s tracks, the race car is gone. It races around the track with its roaring V8 engine and more additional hybrid powerwhich means it pushes the limits of Ferrari’s cleverness.
It’s an impressive sight to witness (as you can see in the video above). This just goes to show what solemn race cars are capable of, but also shows how far road cars have come in recent years. Thanks to tech companies like Ferrari borrows from its racing teamsit may not be too long before the road can battle drivers in even more settings.
