Warner Bros to cut 10% of motion picture group staff in “global structure” transition

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group plans to cut 10% of its staff by 10% of its marketing, distribution, production, strategy, operations and theater ventures.

In a memo to employees on Wednesday (July 30), group co-chairs and CEOs Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca said that “coordinating staffing” will be “when we move from the US home office/international model to a fully global structure.”

The memo added: “In the coming weeks and months, we will work with leaders around the world to shape and implement this global operating model in a way that reflects local needs and reality.”

Although details of the cut have not been revealed, it is offered as part of a process that began earlier this year and is designed to give Warner Bros Pictures a structure that is more suited to a global market.

The news of the workforce cuts is expected to take place by mid-2026 as Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) moves towards separation into two entities. Earlier this week, WBD announced that after the split, streaming and studio operations will be known as Warner Bros. and Discovery Global as Global Network Operations.

Notes from Abdy and De Luca:

Team Motion Photos –

Earlier this year, in collaboration with leaders across the film sector, we received a thoughtful review of our current structure and began working to transform our business as we moved from our US home office/international model to a fully global structure.

This exploration has led to important conversations and insights to help us better understand how we reach our audiences and what fundamental changes should be implemented. It’s something that teams need to work together all over the world to collectively engage today’s film fans, and the department needs to succeed.

My partnership with P&C colleagues and these new learnings led me to spend a lot of time on how films made at Warner Bros. evolved their teams to continue receiving a world-class release campaign.

Adapting our way of working often calls for evolution, and the future of how we run this business requires making extremely difficult decisions, such as staffing that will affect the members of film groups. This week, your department’s leadership shares what these strategic changes mean for you and your team. Over the coming weeks and months, we will work with leaders around the world to shape and implement this global operating model in a way that reflects local needs and reality.

We know that news like this is never easy. And I am extremely grateful to our departure team members, whose contributions have had a lasting impact on us and many people throughout my time at Warner Bros. Each of them has a lot to be proud of.

We know that this group will continue to achieve great things together, while continuing to focus on what will come.

With gratitude,

Mike & Pam
