As the world begins to depend more and more on artificial intelligence (AI) with each passing day, a viral video on Reddit has shown a up-to-date and unique way to apply the technology.
The viral video shows how artificial intelligence monitors employees to check their productivity during working hours. The countdown seen in the video began shortly after the employee left her seat.
The recording shows that the company may have deducted the employee’s pay “for time spent away from the desk.”
Internet users were critical of this up-to-date AI application and claimed that a workplace equipped with such a system would be a “shit” workplace
“Human bots in the sweat room monitored by computer bots. What a damn place where you treat yourself like this. Nothing to brag about,” said one Reddit user.
“We should start practicing the art of acting. Because it looks like the best actors and actresses will stay working,” added another.
“Sometimes I just stare at the computer, but it looks like I’m working,” one user quoted Peter Gibbons, the hero of the movie Office Space.
Another user felt that equating sitting in a chair with productivity was the worst way to describe work done.
“Yes, because sitting in my chair equals productivity… Stupid sentiments. In jobs where people need to think, plan and deliberate (which is probably 80% of computer jobs), they often need to move their thoughts through movement. Working on a problem in my head doesn’t mean I have to do it at my desk,” the user said.
One Reddit user shared a similar experience and said that he immediately resigned from a company that wanted to operate a “keylogger” to control him.
“I once worked for a company that wanted to install a keylogger to see if I was doing my job. I quit immediately, not because I didn’t want to be caught being ‘lethargic’, but because I didn’t want to work for a company that equated keystrokes with productivity,” he commented.
“I spend a lot of time reading, in Zoom meetings, or waiting for something to be built or some other time-consuming action to take place, and I’m not using my keyboard during that time. If you don’t trust me, how can I trust you?” – added.
