Ukraine agrees to 30-day ceasefire

Ukraine reportedly agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after high-stakes negotiations in Saudi Arabia.

The US has pledged to immediately restore military aid and sharing of intelligence news after Trump restricted it after a showdown with Ukrainian leader Voldimee Zelensky.

Trump expressed his hope that Russia’s Vladimir Putin would return and travel, calling it a “complete ceasefire.” “Ukraine agreed to that. And hopefully Russia would agree to that.” Guardian Quote.

Zelenskyy then confirmed that the ceasefire proposal would apply to all frontlines, including air and ocean operations. “Ukraine accepts this proposal. We think it’s positive. Now the US has to persuade Russia to do the same.” CNN.

The joint US-Craine statement emphasized that a ceasefire will only be enacted if Russia agrees and complies with its terms. It also revived the controversial mineral trade, providing the United States with a 50% stake in Ukraine’s key mineral resources. Trump argued that the deal would strengthen Ukraine’s economic security and solidify US interests for the region.

Will Russia accept the ceasefire plan?

British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer welcomed the ceasefire and urged Russia to accept it. Meanwhile, European Commission’s Ursula von der Leyen warned that President Putin was “unreliable” and called for continued military support for Ukraine.

Russian officials have yet to confirm acceptance of a ceasefire. Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded with caution, “You always need to want the best, but still, you need to prepare for the worst. We should always be ready to protect our profits.” Kommersant.

The ceasefire proposal is seen as a strategic move as Ukraine is under pressure to secure US support. The next step will depend on the Russian response, deciding whether the war will cease or continue mercilessly.
