French authorities say two have died after a national celebration at the biggest award in European club football, a historic Champions League victory in Paris Saint-Germain.
According to the National Police, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in the city of DAX during a PSG Street Party.
The Minister of Home Affairs’ office said another person was killed in Paris when his scooter was attacked by a car during the PSG celebration. The circumstances of both deaths are being investigated.
“True PSG fans are excited by the team’s epic performance, while wild bars committed crimes on the streets of Paris, causing law enforcement,” French Home Minister Bruno Letterou commented in a social media post on Saturday after the match.
“I can’t stand it that I can’t stand not being able to party without fear of the savage AV of a few thugs who have no respect for anything.”
The officer was accidentally struck by fireworks in northwestern France and placed him in artificial coma due to serious eye injuries, state police said.
The Interior Ministry said 18 police officers in Paris were injured, along with three other French people, as well as 192 people celebrating on the streets.
A total of 294 people were arrested by 2am, but aside from the descent on violence in some areas, the celebration was mostly peaceful.
