Total of X accounts banned in February
According to the report, the social media platform has blocked 5,06,173 accounts for promoting child sexual abuse and consensual nudity. In addition, the platform suspended 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism.
Combining both, X banned a total of 5,08,155 accounts during the said period in India. Additionally, the platform received around 14,421 complaints from Indian users under its grievance redressal mechanisms. Additionally, approximately 41 account suspension requests were reported.
The company mentioned in its document: “After reviewing the details of the situation, we have rescinded one of the account suspensions. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended,” the company said.
“During this reporting period, we received 71 requests related to general account questions,” he added.
Blocking accounts for policy violations is not a novel practice for X. Between December 26 and January 25, the platform blocked around 2,31,215 accounts in India. During the same period, the company blocked 1,945 accounts on its platform for promoting terrorism.
