Trump’s $5million ‘Gold Card’ immigration plan opens online waitlist for foreign investors

The new immigration scheme launched by US President Donald Trump is now officially open to applicants.

The so-called “trump cards,” which the president has described as “like a green card, but a higher level of refinement,” began accepting waitlist submissions via trumpcard.gov on June 12, 2025.

A gorgeous path to US residency through the Trump Gold Card?

The initiative will provide foreigners with the opportunity to purchase the path to US citizenship for $5 million. However, while the price tag is clear, what applicants actually receive remains vague.

As USA TODAY As reported, the program does not offer automatic citizenship or green cards. Instead, they promise a potential “path to citizenship” without requiring Congressional approval. This clearly raises questions about how it works under existing US immigration laws.

White House officials say details will be made public soon. For now, applicants can only sign up for notifications to provide their name, email and region from any of the eight global areas including Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

Trump: “Wealthy people will come to our country.”

The Trump Card is an alternative to the president’s proposed EB-5 Visa Scheme, and currently offers green cards to foreigners investing between $800,000 and $1.05 million in job-creating US companies.

Trump pitched a new card as a revenue generator and a magnet for rich individuals. “Wealthy people will come to our country by purchasing this card,” Trump said earlier this year. “They are wealthy, they will be successful, they will spend a lot of money, pay a lot of taxes and hire a lot of people.”

In this morning’s Truth Social Post, he shared the following image: “At $5 million dollars, the trump card is coming! Thousands of people have called and asked me how to sign up to get on the beautiful path to access the largest countries and markets anywhere in the world.”

Global trends in citizenship?

The pitch of the cards is not entirely unique. Countries like Portugal already offer foreign investors residencies and ultimate EU citizenship in five years. However, critics argue that such a system creates dual tracks. One is for the wealthy and everyone else.

Trump immigrants are bold and controversial as the claims could raise $1 trillion and help tackle national debt. But without a clear legal framework or a defined citizenship process, critics have questioned whether it is more than a political theatre.
