US President Donald Trump frequently expressed his desire to build a vast, luxurious ballroom in the White House. Well, his dream came to light when Washington’s presidential civil servant announced plans to build it for $200 million.
The new ballroom will be built right next to the “modernized” Eastwing in the White House, the BBC reported on Thursday, July 31st. That area of the presidential residence now houses the office of First Lady Melania Trump.
Construction began in September and is designed to cover 90,000 square feet (27,432 square meters) of space, his spokesman, Karoline Leavitt, said. The White House Ballroom is a 15-year ambition by the president to build event space on the White House grounds that expand the building’s interesting capabilities, but it also resembles the golden space of his private club.
“It’s going to be a great legacy project.”
“I’ve always said I’m going to do something about the ballroom. “It’s going to be a great legacy project, and I think it’s going to be special.”
Maintaining the “theme and architectural heritage” of neoclassical executive apartments, the new Ballroom has seating capacity of 650 people, more than three times as much space as the East Room, and is currently the largest event space in the White House.
“The president didn’t know how to build a ballroom,” Trump said he met the President of the European Commission and his Turnberry Golf Resort at Scotland’s Turnberry Golf Resort last weekend. “I can take this and drop it right away, and it will be beautiful.”
The White House is currently hosting events in “unsightly” tents
Leavitt described the new construction, which he said would be funded by Trump and other private donors, but she called it “unsightly” after the previous white house was forced to host a significant event in a temporary tent built on the south lawn.
“For 150 years, the president, administration and White House staff have longed for a large event space in the White House complex that can accommodate significantly more guests than is currently permitted,” Leavitt said. “President Trump has expressed his commitment to solving this issue on behalf of the future administration and the American people.”
McCrery Architects, an architect known for his “Classic Architecture Design,” was chosen to take the lead in the project.
“We are honored to praise President Trump for helping us bring this beautiful and necessary renovation to people’s homes.
