If you liked this video of the Toyota GR GT3 racing car being tested at Belgium’s Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, get ready for more V8 thunder. As Ford prepares to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Ford Mustang GTD, the automaker took a pure track version of its $325,000 pony car to the Nürburgring for testing. Car Spy Media did us all a favor and captured three minutes of the test segment, and the soundtrack was an operatic warm-up session for the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 coupe. In road-legal form, Ford plans to get more than 800 horsepower from the bump in the front. For the race, GT3 regulations limit production to 600 horses.
Revealed last August, during a five-week period in April and May of this year, Ford opened the reservation window to enter Mustang GTD examples produced for the 2025 and 2026 model years. We’re told that more than 7,500 eager buyers submitted applications for well over 325 000 dollars until options and fees are added up. The automaker still hasn’t clarified what the phrase “circumscribed production” means in the case of the ‘Stang GTD, but it’s certainly much less than what’s reported. We suspect the hopeful horde won’t diminish no matter how the car performs at La Sarthe – let’s be straightforward, plenty of those who raised their hands would have hit the “Flip at Auction” button before pressing the car’s start button – but a robust showing lined up by the next opening, bookings will be even greater, especially if the post-Le Mans schedule goes well. After the race in France, Ford enters GTD at the 24 Hours of Spa and then plans a time trial on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
