A few weeks ago, Ford gave us an idea of what its Pikes Peak F-150 Lightning SuperTruck would look like, but today we got photos of it in full racing guise and with all of its jaw-dropping specs.
You probably remember the SuperVan that Ford drove around the world in years past, but now we have a unique EV pickup racer that will attempt to set even more records at Pikes Peak. This SuperTruck is a three-motor electric vehicle that produces 1,400 horsepower from six-phase STARD UHP electric motors. Ford didn’t boast any acceleration times or top speeds, but it does say that Romain Dumas (the driver who co-piloted the truck on Pikes Peak) will aim to beat the 8 minutes, 47.682 seconds he set last year in the van.
The aerodynamic bits look absolutely wild, to the point where the design borders on ridiculous or cartoonish. Ford highlights the three-piece front fender, headlight ducts, hood ducts, louvres, front dive planes, side diffusers, rear diffuser and multi-piece rear wing as they all contribute to the 6,000 pounds of downforce produced at 150 miles per hour. Of course, it’s stopped by carbon-ceramic brakes and rolls on forged magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires. As for the suspension, Ford says it’s a completely custom onboard suspension design.
The Ford’s livery echoes the Ford Performance livery we’ve seen on various other recent products and will make it easier to choose on June 23, when Dumas sends it up the 5,500-meter mountain. This crazy device was created as part of a partnership between Ford Design and STARD Advanced Research and Development, and the company says that everything about it, from the NMC lithium polymer cells to the tri-motor configuration, is designed to stand out in a place like Pikes Peak.
