Vintage Good wood Members’ Meeting Is one of the coolest vintage events in the world, bringing the greatest talents and iron on four wheels to one place. These years The Graham Hill Trophy race featuring GT racing cars from the early 1960s and so it was among the more raucous events on the schedule packed to the gills with a large engine Cobras, E-type Jaguars and Corvettes, with a few bantamweight Porsches and Lotuses thrown in to liven things up. One of those PorschesAND 904 hosted by Olly Bryant, was an absolute hit.
Amazing on board: Porsche 904 hunts Elan and Cobra at Goodwood
In this amazing lap of Bryant on board, you can see his 904 pushing strenuous to overtake the Lotus and Cobra. On board you can see how differently these three cars cope with a speedy lap at Goodwood. The Cobra is all about daring acceleration and mitigating wheel spin, while the Lotus is in hammer mode the entire time. The 904 is a good mix of the two, delivering impressive power and composure from a sonorous engine.
After Bryant manages to catch both cars in one corner thanks to the Cobra’s immobilization, the 904 has several minutes of uninterrupted lap pace in pristine air. The sound, feel and rapid sawing of the wheel are indicative of what it takes to go speedy in a sixty-year-old fiberglass Porsche.
The 904 is one of my favorite Porsche race cars because it combines mechanical and engineering simplicity with a gorgeous, unadorned design. Unfortunately, I’m much too lofty to ever fit into the 904, so I have to rely on video decks like these to solve the problem. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
