Tesla has I spent the last month seemingly letting go anyone the company can rather reserve – and lots of it people that this is probably not possible. When a company makes such massive layoffs, observers often wonder: How will it affect employees?
Well, thanks tHe Edgewe now know exactly how Tesla employees found out about their impending unemployment. A newly fired employee sent an email to the facility announcing his layoff, showing both random cruelty and some very strange wording used to let people know they had been fired. The email begins with one long, repetitive sentence:
I am contacting you to inform you that after a careful review of your tenure restrictions and your role, it has been determined that there were no reasonable accommodations that would enable you to perform the imperative functions of your position in your position.
The phrase “your role” is repetitive and redundant, but what is more intriguing is the mention of “your ongoing work restrictions.” The sender never goes into detail about this, but it’s unclear whether this refers to pre-existing accommodations – versatile working hours, remote work, or something like that – or a elementary “restriction” that the person works in within the scope of his position and achieves nothing beyond that.
The email mentions an internal job search designed to match the recipient to another open position at Tesla and then kick him out. This section ends with the words: “Given recent changes in the industry, we do not currently anticipate any such vacancies in the near future” – not a fantastic prospect for the future of the company if employment remains so severely restricted for now.
Considering Tesla reluctance to cooperate with trade unionsthe company may not want such a harsh and sudden approach to layoffs. When morale is low and job security seems a distant dream, people often find solidarity as workers. Just a thought.
