Elon Musk and Tesla’s lies about the readiness of actual, fully autonomous cars begins to catch up with them. The judge just threw it away automaker from Austin, Texas we sought to dismiss a lawsuit that the company misled owners into believing that their vehicles would soon do so independent driving possibilities. This should not be confused the poorly named “Full Self-Drive” program. currently available on Tesla. These cars still exploit the Level II autonomy system.
All of the proposed nationwide class action lawsuits refer to a 2016 film that falsely advertises what Autopilot and FSD can do accordingly Reuters. We can also say that it is functional full independence is “just around the corner,” which has encouraged owners to pay more for these features.
Here’s a bit more information from Reuters on the scope of the lawsuit and who may be involved:
U.S. District Judge Rita Lin in Sazn Francisco found that owners could pursue negligence and fraud claims to the extent they relied on Tesla’s representations about the vehicle’s hardware and ability to travel from coast to coast throughout the United States
Without ruling on the merits of the case, Lin stated that “if Tesla wanted to convey that its hardware was sufficient to achieve high or full automation, then it clearly alleges that this is sufficiently false.”
To a miniature extent Tesla victory, Judge Lin dismissed some other claims in Thomas LoSavio’s case. He’s a retired California lawyer who claims to have paid $8,000 bonus for fully autonomous driving features on the Model S in 2017. Keep in mind that the FSD once cost as much as $15,000 before returning to its current price of $8,000. LoSavio claims in the lawsuit that he believes the system will assist make his driving safer if his reflexes deteriorate as he ages.
All these years later and Tesla claims it is still miles away from being “even remotely” able to produce a car that is fully self-driving Reuters. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for people who bought or leased Teslas since 2016 Autopilot, improved autopilot and full autonomy.
It’s been a long time coming for Musk, Tesla and the people who bought this shit. In April this year, Musk confirmed his desire for autonomy. Here’s what he said and where all this failure is currently coming from Bloomberg: :
In April, Musk declared that Tesla would “throw eggs against the wall in the name of autonomy” by committing the automaker to develop a next-generation autonomous vehicle concept called robots. The billionaire entrepreneur has been speaking out about autonomy for over a decade and convincing customers to pay thousands of dollars for Full Self-Driving (FSD). The name is misleading – FSD requires constant supervision and does not provide vehicles with autonomy – but Musk has repeatedly predicted that it is close to fitting the brand.
Meanwhile, the company faces federal investigations into whether defects in Autopilot’s driver-assist features contributed to fatal crashes, as well as regulatory probes and lawsuits over claims it overestimated its progress. Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into whether the electric vehicle maker’s recall of more than 2 million cars months earlier adequately addressed Autopilot’s safety risks.
In the past, Tesla said Autopilot allows vehicles to steer, accelerate and brake in a lane and Full independence allows vehicles to actually follow traffic signals and change lanes. Guys, it looks like he’s changing lanes right into the courthouse. HI!
