Jason George is making the most of the time he has left Station 19despite his complex premonitions about his surprising appeal.
The actor talks Hollywood reporter about his mixed emotions as the ABC firefighter series ends this month after seven seasons. George began his role as Ben Warren in an episode of the show’s sixth season Grey’s Anatomy which aired in 2010 before the spinoff show Station 19 launched in March 2018
Indeed, fans were stunned when news broke overdue last year that ABC would be ending the series after the current season. “It’s incredibly complex because it feels like we have so many more years ahead of us,” Warren says THR about Station 19 ending.
However, the actor consoles himself with the knowledge that the team creating his series managed to prepare for the finale, which is not always the case with some series.
“Knowing this was our last season, the writers had to write an ending where the plane landed the way it was supposed to,” George says. “We have to write a stunning ending and also plan the whole thing and deal with ourselves, knowing that it will be saying goodbye to our family every day.”
He adds: “If the audience feels what we felt when we saw the last shot, they will cry.”
Grey’s Anatomy fans remain hopeful that Ben – married to Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson on the medical drama – will reappear on the long-running series. George is open to a potential return, but says he’s not sure where any talks might lead.
“I like to think there is still a Ben-Bailey or Benley story to tell,” he says. He then jokes, “I think it’s possible. Talks can take place.”
THR spoke with George at the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Waves of Change event Saturday at the Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica. The event was organized as part of the Ocean Rising initiative and included a fashion show featuring ocean-inspired looks, and George also read a spoken word by the author about a robot in love with a mermaid.
George was eager to participate because he grew up near the ocean as a Virginia Beach resident, not to mention his dad was a member of the Navy. “I have always paid attention to the environment,” says the actor. “So I thought, ‘It’s obvious.'”
