Actor Sharad Kelkar who was last seen in a biopic Srikanth starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, he charged only Rs 101 as royalty for the film, revealed the film’s director Tushar Hiranandani. In a conversation with eTimes, Tushar Hiranandani noted that Sharad Kelkar first demanded compensation equivalent to his market value. However, after listening to the film’s narration, the actor was moved and decided to carry out the project regardless of the amount of remuneration. The director stated, “When Sharad came to meet me, he quoted a price which he deserves too. But then I told him it was hard for me and asked him to listen to the narrative.”
The director added that after the narration Goliyon Ki Raasleela-Ram Leela the actor left and didn’t expect to make a movie. However, the next day, producer Bhushan Kumar informed Tushar Hiranandani that the actor wanted to work on the project at all costs as he “didn’t want to miss out on such an opportunity”.
For the uninitiated, Sharad Kelkar plays the role of Ravi, Srikanth Bolla’s best friend. “Sharad enters a break after the film and guesses the amount of his contract with Srikanth? It’s only Rs 101! In fact, it is Ravi who is behind the success of Srikanth Bolla,” noted Tushar Hiranandani.
Reviewing the film for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote, “Srikanth is a classic rags to riches saga that is immensely enhanced by the director’s refusal to operate standard genre tropes. He not only ensures the simplicity and coherence of the narrative, but also ensures that the craftsmanship put into the project – cinematographer Pratham Mehta and editors Debasmita Mitra and Sanjay Sankla do their job perfectly – does not overshadow the essence of the narrative.”
Srikanth marks Alaya F and Rajkummar Rao’s first-ever on-screen collaboration.
