Sophie Fiennes’ Edinburgh premiere ‘Acting’ lands North American deal

Exclusive: Juno Films acquires all North American rights to Sophie Fiennes‘ Documentary and Edinburgh International Film Festival Premiere acting.

This feature provides an inside look at the acting process as Cheek by Jowl Theater Company’s artistic directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod rehearse scenes from Shakespeare’s plays. macbeth With eight actors in an abandoned mansion on the outskirts of London.

Fiennes shot and edited the entire feature, which premiered in Edinburgh in 2024 and was subsequently screened at the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

Co-produced by Cheek by Jowl and Amoeba Films, and Lone Star Productions will open April 10th at New York’s Quad Cinema and April 11th in Los Angeles as part of the Culture Vulture series, followed by a limited theatrical release.

“I acted as another person in the ensemble,” Fiennes said. “The gap between being and performance is at the heart of this film. This is a film about the process of learning, as the play becomes increasingly breakthrough and delivers shocking insights.”

“Sophie captures the process of bringing Shakespeare to the stage,” said Vonda Elizabeth Sheldon, CEO of Juno Films. “It’s a rare opportunity to watch Declan and Nick rehearse with eight actors and see the process behind the production.”

Sheldon brokered the deal with Shani Hinton on behalf of P Guide Limited. Fiennes said that in addition to Juno’s commitment to “independent film with an emphasis on creative practice,” he had the following goals: acting It will be shown to audiences in New York, Los Angeles, and “all theaters showing performing arts and creative documentaries in North America.”
