‘Sentimental Value’ leads nominations for European Film Awards

sentimental value ‘ has emerged as a frontrunner for the 2025 European Film Awards, receiving five nominations.

Nominations for the main categories at this year’s awards, to be held in Berlin on January 17th, were announced this morning by the European Film Academy.

Recent rule changes mean that shortlisted films in the Best Documentary and Animation categories will also be able to compete in this category, with 15 features competing for the Best European Film award.

sentimental value ‘ is nominated in the European Film category, as well as Joachim Trier as director, Renate Rheinwe as actress, Stellan Skarsgård as actor, and Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier as screenwriter. The Cannes Grand Prix-winning film follows two sisters who reunite with their estranged father, who was once an acclaimed film director.

Silat In addition to being nominated for Best European Film Director, Oliver Laxse was nominated for Best Director, Sergi López was nominated for Best Actor, and Santiago Finol and Oliver Laxse were nominated for Best Screenplay. The film, which jointly won the Jury Prize at Cannes, follows a father and son who gather at a rave in the mountains of southern Morocco to find their daughter and sister.

Rounding out the feature films within the major European films section is the work of Kauser Ben Hania. Hind Rajab’s voice, winner of Received the Silver Lion Grand Jury Award in Venice. This docudrama, based on real events, depicts the Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s response to the call of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl trapped in a car in Gaza City under Israeli shelling.

Two British feature films nominated: Akinola Davies’ British-Nigerian co-production father’s shadow Laura Carreira’s British-Portuguese co-production When you fall, Both have been shortlisted for the European Discovery Award in the FIPRESCI category.
