Exclusive: Reinvent International Sales has embarked on Emilie Thalund’s teen drama Zero weight It will be ahead of the world premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.
Zero weight It will be released in San Sebastian’s new Director Strand. Renvent handles international sales through distribution by Scanbox Entertainment to Denmark.
The film is the debut feature of Danish director Tarundo, written by Marianne Lenz. It follows Lee, a 15-year-old girl who spends the summer at the Hell Camp. Determined to lose weight, she wants to be like her vibrant new roommate Sasha. However, while Sasha focuses on the local boys, Lee’s mind is set in Rune, the camp’s charming instructor.
The film is produced by Anna Dammegaard Solest and Clara Janzen Krainoe for the Danish Snow Gloves.
Marie Herweg Augustussen leads the cast alongside Ella Easter, Joachim Fierstrup and Jessica Dinage.
Zero weight It is supported by the Danish Film Institute’s new Danish Screen Initiative in collaboration with DR and SVT.
“I wanted to portray the sexual and emotional awakening of a young girl, both in empathy and seriousness,” Salund said. “The film explores the balance between longing for love and recognition and the power structure that arises when this longing encounters adult sexuality.
“The film aims to make a voice for the type of girl you rarely see in cinemas and is what she takes seriously.
