During training camp, the New Orleans Saints had an open QB battle for the starting spot. Second-year pro Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Schau competed for the QB1 spot. Prior to the season, Spencer Rattler was named the starter. New Orleans started the year 0-4, winning at home against the Giants in Week 5. Since then, they have lost three games in a row, falling to one win and seven losses.
In Week 8, the Saints played at home against the Buccaneers. At halftime, coach Spencer Rattler was informed that rookie Tyler Schau would be substituted for the second half. Rattler started the Saints’ first eight games of the season. But the coaching staff needed to try something different. Tyler Shoaf played the third and fourth quarters of Week 8.

The rookie quarterback finished the game 17-30 with 128 passing yards and one interception. He added three carries for 12 yards in his first proper NFL action. In Week 3’s loss to the Seahawks, Shaw did indeed attempt two passes. On Tuesday, October 28, NFL officials announced that Tyler Shaw will make his first NFL start in Week 9 against the Rams.
Tyler Shaw was a second-round pick by the Saints from Louisville. The 26-year-old played at the collegiate level for seven seasons. He had two medical hardship exemptions due to long-term injuries. Additionally, due to the shortened Corona season, an extra year was added to the show. The 2024 season was his final year of college football, playing at Louisville. After waiting eight weeks to begin his professional career, Tyler Shaw will make his first start in Week 9 against the Rams.
