Style and Xcuse Me actor Sahil Khan was arrested by the SIT Mumbai Crime Branch in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Sahil Khan was accused of collaborating with Mahadev’s sister betting app, Lotus app 247. A case was registered at the Matunga police station against 37 people, including Sahil Khan, in the Mahadev betting app case. The actor will appear in a court in Mumbai today.
The development comes days after actor Sahil Khan filed a bail application in the Supreme Court, which was rejected by the court, following which the SIT took action. The Supreme Court said it was “directly linked to the online betting application”.
The police said that the accused had created 67 different betting websites and through them people were encouraged to place illegal bets. The accused used over 2,000 SIM cards to withdraw and deposit money. False documents were used for this purpose. About 1,700 counterfeit bank accounts were created to send money abroad and convert it into cryptocurrency. These documents were also created in various banks using counterfeit documents. The police further added that the accused used over 1,000 Telegram and WhatsApp channels to promote their betting portal. The police sought more information from all bank accounts, betting websites and companies issuing SIM cards.
Last December, Dubai Police arrested Ravi Uppal, one of the two main accused in the case involving online betting app Mahadev. He was detained in Dubai by local police on a red notice issued by Interpol on the orders of the Emergency Department.
For the uninitiated, Sahil Khan is an actor and fitness entrepreneur. The actor started his career with the music video Stereo Nation Nachange Sari Raat. He then gained recognition in the industry after playing the lead role in the 2001 film Style. Apart from Style, he has also worked on Xcuse Me, Yeh Hai Zindagi, Double Cross, Aladdin and Ramaa: The Savior.
