From her memorable songs (anyone else drinking “Espresso” on repeat?) to her luscious curtain bangs, Sabrina Carpenter is the Y2K pop princess the world has been missing. Of course, in honor of her 25th birthday on Saturday, May 11 – hosted, of course, by boyfriend Barry Keoghan – her look included a very nostalgic detail: a rhinestone-encrusted French manicure. And given the singer’s prestigious status, it could be something modern for the summer.
Carpenter’s passion for contemporary culture was cemented by her head-to-toe style, which was inspired by the 2003 romantic comedy, How to lose a guy in 10 days. Dressed in a vintage Caché dress from Depop (a mini version of the yellow backless dress Kate Hudson wore at the end of the film), a yellow diamond teardrop necklace and Christian Louboutin heels, her long, slightly shiny nails provided the perfect finishing touch along with the rest her sparkling glam by a makeup artist Caroline Gonzalez and hairdresser Danielle Priano.
Statement nails are nothing modern for Carpenter, who recently showed off fairy-tale-inspired, frosty blue tips with rhinestones at the Met Gala, where inventive nails were one of the biggest beauty trends. And in her Marc Jacobs’ last campaignstar nail artist Zola Ganzorigt (who also works with Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Sydney Sweeney) gave Nonsense the singer in a style similar to the one she wore to her birthday celebrations. Ganzorigt was also responsible for the pop star’s pearl mani, which complemented her recent Coachella appearance, so she’s one to watch what’s next in the nail department.
This modern take on the classic trend is a bit more dramatic than the minuscule French manis we’ve seen lately – and is clearly more of a throwback. If you make an appointment, ask your manicurist for an almond or oval shape (of course, you can always do the same French style and shiny details even on shorter, rounded shapes if you prefer). Don’t want to commit to something long-term? Or maybe you are looking for a cheaper solution? Go DIY by grabbing a push-in kit and adding some rhinestone stickers.
