Odesa, in southern Ukraine, was the target of Russia’s major drone attack on Wednesday night, destroying a nine-storey building and damaging several historic monuments in the old town.
The Russian drone attacks damaged UNESCO-protected landmarks such as the Primorsky Boulevard and the Privoz market. Both are part of Ole Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Regime, which is part of the historic centre of the Black Sea Port city.
Various fires have emerged in the area as a result of the strike, including a nine-story residential building. A spokesman for Marina Averina’s Odesa state emergency services reported at least four people were injured.
The apartments were destroyed from the 5th to 8th floors, and fires broke out on the 5th and 6th floors. Emergency crew rescued five people trapped in apartments and evacuated 33 more residents.
Russia will also be released in Cherkassy, Kharkiv, Zapolizia, Donetsk, Smie and Mikolife regions, and Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelenki wrote in X.
“At the meeting in Istanbul yesterday, the proposal for an immediate and complete ceasefire was repeated on the Russian side,” Zelensky wrote, adding that Russia had launched numerous attacks in Ukraine in response.
Three people have been killed, including several children, and at least 33 have been injured in Harkiff. According to local media, the overnight attack at Cherkassy, southeast of Kiev, sparked several fires and injured at least seven people.
Local governments reported two strong explosions in the city, resulting in power outages and internet connection interruptions.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the military regime in the Zaporizhzhia region, reported that the area was targeting nine Shahed drones at night and caused multiple fires.
The town of Mikolife, located in the south of the country, has also become a target for drone attacks. Vitali Kim, head of the regional junta, said Russia attacked the town with Shahed drones overnight. No victims have been reported yet.
Ukrainian military targets Russian oil depots
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones raided an oil warehouse in Sirius, near the city of Sochi, Russia, in the Krasnodar region.
Local governor Beniamin Kondratiev reported that the two were killed by fallen debris from a drone that was being shot down in Sochi.
“The wreckage from the drone also fell into the territory of the oil reservoir. As a result of the attack, 11 people were injured and four were hospitalized,” he wrote in Telegram. These claims could not be independently tested.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that 42 Ukrainian drones were intercepted by the Russian defense system on Wednesday night.
