Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Oberchuk has said that Moscow will try to balance Washington-Beijing relations.
According to a senior Russian official, the Kremlin is trying to balance its relationship with the United States, along with its military and economic partnership with communist China.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Oberchuk made his speech in a speech at the Boer Forum in Hainan Province, China on March 27th.
“Regarding relations between Russia, China and the US, the translation of the comments originally reported by Bloomberg should not develop relations with other countries.
Overchuk added that Moscow was eager to work with Beijing to implement and expand the strategic contract signed by two authorities in 2023.
China’s state media said Overchuk also expressed hope that the strategic partnership will reach new heights in the coming years as the two powers continued to entangle their future.
Similarly, Overchuk said Russia was able to resist the forces of Western sanctions over the war with Ukraine in order to fill the void by significantly expanding its purchases of Russian energy and other goods.
China’s deputy prime minister, Prime Minister Din Shukshun, is a senior official on the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Political Bureau, and has already met with Oberchuk twice this year, saying the two will continue to develop relations between the government.
Oberchuk agreed with the sentiment and said he would continue to seek ways to expand cooperation with China.
“The two countries have a desire to explore opportunities to expand these ties as they are experiencing external pressure,” Oberchuk said. “And of course, we are working together to find ways to improve the standard of living for the people in our country.”
The comment is as Moscow is trying to resume economic and diplomatic ties with the new Washington administration and discourage the shipment of American and Alliance weapons to Ukraine.
President Donald Trump has previously encouraged reconciliation with Russia, saying the US will fully reintegrate Russia and strive to make it into the global economic and diplomatic space.
Nevertheless, the Trump administration may be open to more integrated Russian and Chinese ideas as Washington aims to bring both powers to the table on other issues, such as military spending and nuclear proliferation.
