Shaking up an average Tuesday with one massive, industry-disrupting announcement, she took to Instagram to announce the imminent arrival of Fenty Hair, her beauty megabrand’s first entry into the category. That would be thrilling in itself, but leave it to Rih to make expanding Fenty just part of the fun. In a teaser announcing the news, Rihanna showed off a fairy-style hairstyle that’s sure to inspire legions of followers. But as fans might expect, this is no ordinary ultra-short track. Instead of keeping up with the more classic elements of the look, Rih’s remixed it to give it a state-of-the-art, personal, and even a little edgy feel.
In the compact clip shared on social media, Rihanna can be seen wearing a timeless beige trench coat as she travels around the fictional city and surrounding area to spread the word about premium hair care products. Her own honey blonde hair is styled in a choppy updo that ends at the nape of her neck. It has long sideburns along the temples, tousled, side-swept bangs and a tapered back that gives it a frosty, mullet effect.
It’s almost like a modernized version of a 1960s style cut, especially with the slight curl at the very ends. In the caption of the post, Rih takes a moment to admit that she has always been a hair pioneer, writing, “You know how vital changing my hair is to me. I’ve had almost every texture, color and length, from weaves to braids to natural – that’s why I’m introducing a versatile line of products that not only suit the needs of every hair type, but each product is designed to strengthen and repair every hair type, that’s what we really need! ”
Of course, as she mentioned, this isn’t the first time Rihanna has played with a fairy hairstyle. She’s tried this look – in various lengths and colors – several times over the years, although this may have been the first time she’d combined this shape and a particular shade of blonde.
