The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO delivers TRX off-road capabilities in a lighter and less costly package, albeit with significantly less power. This will appeal to a lot of people, but its appearance in the wake of the Hellcat-powered TRX will certainly have fans (and us, admittedly) asking, “Does this mean you’re done with the really crazy stuff?” Well, Ram’s director of global operations, Bob Broderdorf, told the press at the RHO launch that the recent truck is NO TRX replacement.
Broderdorf then went on to talk about how he and the folks at Ram know it’s not that powerful, and that’s partly why the brand isn’t targeting a full successor to the TRX. He also talked about how Ram has the in-house experience and knowledge necessary to build extreme vehicles like the TRX.
He did NOhowever, confirm one way or another that something even more radical than RHO will come to properly replace TRX.
That being said, if it hasn’t been confirmed, it certainly seems like there must be some mechanics going on behind the scenes for this to work. And why wouldn’t Ram do that? Of course, there’s a market for halo trucks – look at the F-150 Raptor R and of course the TRX, which we won’t stop talking about.
We bet getting more out of the Hurricane’s sixth row won’t be tough either. We spoke with Doug Killian, general manager of vehicle synthesis, who confirmed that mechanically the engine in the RHO is essentially identical to any other Ram 1500 with the same high-output engine. It certainly wouldn’t be tough to augment the boost, add better intercooling, and maybe even upgrade some internals to augment power. And sure, that would likely mean costly certification of the recent drivetrain, but the TRX was six figures and sold, so the company can offset some of those costs at retail. Additionally, this engine could be made available to other upcoming models. Say, the even more productive Charger Sixpack or the recent Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk?
Typically we would say, “Don’t get your hopes up.” However, we believe that the chances for this are high and work on it is ongoing.
