Pace chairman of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kagiso Rabada, has been ruled out for the remainder of IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 due to injury. The South African speedster is battling a cushioned tissue infection in his lower limb and “consulted a specialist upon arrival in South Africa.”
Cricket South Africa contacted ‘X’ to share an update and mentioned that the injury will not prevent him from participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 tournament.
“Proteas speedy bowler Kagiso Rabada returned home from the Indian Premier League with a cushioned tissue infection in his lower limb. The 28-year-old has consulted a specialist since arriving in South Africa and is being closely monitored by the Cricket South Africa medical team. This is not expected to have an impact on his preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA,” he wrote CSA on a social media platform.
Rabada is an integral part of South Africa’s squad for the ICC marquee tournament. The 28-year-old has played 56 T20Is for the Proteas and has taken 58 wickets. His average with ball in hand is 29.87 and runs conceded is an average of 8.61 per match.
The Johannesburg native doesn’t have a very impressive record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and that’s why he’d like to improve it this time around in the US and the Caribbean. In the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he has played 13 matches and taken 15 wickets at an average of 28.73. His economy rate of 9.23 is also not something to behold.
South Africa will play a three-match T20I series against the West Indies in preparation for the T20 World Cup.
