Fresh Delhi:
Priyanka Chopra recently delved into the cultural contrasts between her and husband Nick Jonas, highlighting how they have found a harmonious balance after six years of marriage. Priyanka Chopra said that although she and Nick Jonas come from immense families, their upbringing was clearly diverse in terms of cultural influences, which required a process of adaptation and mutual understanding of each other’s backgrounds. During an interview with the Read the Room podcast, Priyanka spoke about mutual appreciation for each other’s homelands and willingness to immerse each other in each other’s cultures.
Priyanka then shared how an Indian family like hers “speaked in sentences” to each other, but that wasn’t the case with Nick’s family. She stated that such things were “really challenging” for her to learn. She said, “Before you finish your sentence, I know what you’re saying, so I’ll just tell you. It’s just who we are culturally.”
Priyanka added, “We just say, ‘Let’s go!’ We are thunderous and everyone shouts over each other. So Nick had to learn to cut himself off from others, he had to learn to shout over everyone. it’s like, “yes, I’m saying it!” I had to learn to wait, to let someone finish their sentence. I replied, “I know what you’re saying, but I’ll wait until you’re done.”
She went into detail about the changes they both made, revealing that she found it a challenge to learn to wait patiently for someone to finish speaking. On the other hand, Nick, who had confined contact with India before marrying Priyanka, has since visited the country many times. He recently extended his stay in India by a few weeks to attend Holi celebrations with Priyanka and her extended family.
Priyanka and Nick got married in 2018. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.
