Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend was found dead earlier this year in a Miami hotel room of a suspected overdose. According to The Times, the US city police confirmed the identity of the man who died on February 7 at the M Miami Worldcenter hotel as Paolo Liuzzo.Independent. Police said Mr. Liuzzo’s death is being investigated as an “overdose death.”
His body was flown back to Long Island, Fresh York, and his funeral took place on February 16. His death certificate shows that he worked as a consultant in the art industry and never married.
Sources say he struggled with drugs and incurred enormous gambling debts. A long-time friend of Mr. Liuzzo said: “Privately, Paolo wasn’t doing well. He loved partying and playing. He started taking a lot of pharmaceutical drugs, but this later led to cocaine and harder drugs. It was a very fast-paced lifestyle and we were all afraid it would eventually catch up. He always borrowed money to pay off his loans. It became a vicious circle.”
He had previously been arrested in Australia for a number of offenses including cocaine possession.
The princess, the daughter of disgraced Prince Andrew, started dating Mr. Liuzzo in 2005, when she was 17 and he was 24. Their relationship came to delicate when Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson invited him to join their family on a ski holiday in Verbier.
However, the couple split in 2006 after it emerged that he had been forced to return to the United States after violating probation following an assault conviction.
In 2020, Princess Beatrice married developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a surprise private ceremony that was scaled back due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September 2021, she gave birth to a daughter, her first child.
