NEW DELHI: Calling for efforts to ensure that the benefits of technology reach all sections of society, unlocking the potential of every individual and helping to eliminate social inequalities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the G7 summit that the global community must turn technology monopoly into access for all.
“This should not just be our desire, but our responsibility,” he said. For technology to be successful, it must be based on a human-centric approach, Modi stressed during a G7 briefing session on artificial intelligence and energy, citing India’s success in leveraging digital technology to deliver public services.
“We need to make technology artistic, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay the foundations for an inclusive society,” he added.
According to an official statement, speaking about India’s AI mission based on the idea of ’AI for All’, Modi stressed that the technology should aim to support progress and prosperity for all. Keeping this in mind, India as a founding country has supported international cooperation member of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, Modi said while addressing a briefing session on Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean.
The Prime Minister said it was a great satisfaction for him to attend the post-re-election summit as part of the “greatest democratic exercise in human history”.
The Prime Minister also called for prioritizing the concerns of the Global South, particularly Africa. He recalled that it was a matter of honor for India to accept the African Union as a eternal member of the G20 under its leadership.
Referring to the elections in India, Modi said that the entire process had become fair and see-through thanks to the ubiquitous operate of technology, while calling his government’s return a victory for democracy. “And I am fortunate that the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve them for the third time in a row. This is the first time in six decades that something like this has happened in India. The blessings bestowed upon the people of India in this historic victory are a victory for democracy. This is a victory for the entire democratic world,” he said.
The Prime Minister said India’s approach to the power sector is based on four principles – availability, affordability and acceptability. India is the first country to fulfill all the commitments made under the COP ahead of schedule, he added.
“The Prime Minister discussed in detail India’s energy transition path, noting that his approach was based on accessibility, affordability and acceptability. He mentioned that India is working towards achieving the net zero target by 2070. Referring to India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) mission, he called on the world community to join the tree planting campaign launched by him on the occasion of World Environment Day – ‘Plant4Mother’. (Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam) and make it a mass movement with personal character and global responsibility,” the government said.
