OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted the highlights of the latest version of ChatGPT launched on May 13, highlighting a significant step forward in AI accessibility for free and creative interfaces.
Altman shared his observations on his blog after launching the latest version of ChatGPT. GPT-4o is an advanced version of the AI technology that powers the widely used ChatGPT generative tool. To be freely available to all users as OpenAI rolls it out globally, GPT-4o boasts improved performance and efficiency. OpenAI has made GPT-4o text and graphics features available to some paying ChatGPT Plus users and will soon offer these features to enterprise users.
This launch comes just one day before Google I/O 2024. During the event in San Francisco, Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, shared her excitement: “We are very, very excited to make GPT-4o available to all our free users.”
First, Altman expressed pride in achieving a key part of OpenAI’s mission: making high-performance AI tools freely available to the public. “We made the best model in the world available for free on ChatGPT, with no ads or anything like that,” he wrote. This initiative is consistent with OpenAI’s core vision of moving from using AI to directly create benefits for the world to enabling others to innovate and realize diverse benefits through the apply of OpenAI technologies.
While OpenAI operates as a company and plans to introduce paid features, Altman emphasized its continued commitment to providing exceptional AI services for free to potentially billions of users.
Second, Altman raved about the recent voice and video mode integrated with ChatGPT, describing it as the best computer interface he’s ever used, similar to the artificial intelligence seen in the movies. This recent feature marks a significant evolution, offering human-like response times and a more natural, expressive interaction style. “Artificial intelligence seems like something out of movies, and it still kind of surprises me that it’s real,” he noted.
The improvements introduced in this release of ChatGPT not only improve the user experience by making conversations with your computer more natural and engaging, but also pave the way for future improvements such as personalized interactions, access to user-specific information, and more proactive features.
OpenAI’s move strengthens its position in the competitive artificial intelligence development landscape. It sets a recent standard for user-friendly and accessible AI technologies that have the potential to transform the way we apply digital tools in our everyday lives.
