While I understand the appeal of a small bikini – sort of – I just can’t bring myself to invest in this sassy trend. I love swimsuits with a bit more coverage, so I usually gravitate towards high-waisted one-pieces or two-pieces. The latter in particular has been bugging me lately as I see brands getting more and more imaginative with textures, patterns and silhouettes. The “disposable” category is no longer reserved for basic, single-color styles. Currently, one-piece swimsuits are undergoing a recent look with sexy cutouts, unexpected color combinations and eye-catching details and embellishments. This is obviously great news for committed fans like yours truly.
Especially this season, one-piece suits are incredibly diverse in variety and options. All of this year’s biggest swimwear trends easily encompass maillot styles. There’s the TikTok-beloved coquette trend, in all its rosette and floral print glory, that brands like For Love & Lemons and Louise Misha are doubling down on with their swimwear. The bold cutout trend that has spread over the last few years is particularly prevalent in the one-piece category, with brands such as Jade Swim and Mango offering pieces in captivating shapes and silhouettes. Bridgerton’s heaving busts have brought a bigger corset look that extends beyond one-pieces, and corset styles courtesy of Solid & Striped and Zara will be all the rage in the upcoming summer season.
I couldn’t be happier with the one-piece options for summer. If you, too, share my love of classic poolside style, shop my favorite styles – and trends – below. Feel the holiday atmosphere.
Fragile details
The ubiquitous coquette style, defined by traditionally feminine details like ruffles, floral prints and rosettes, is definitely at the forefront of my one-piece search this season. I love the incredibly romantic and fun look of these styles, especially considering how well they translate to waterless activities. Paired with jeans or flowing maxi skirts, they can easily take me from the pool to a drink.
Cut it out
Just because I prefer one-piece swimsuits doesn’t mean I don’t like risky and sassy swimsuits. I really like strategic cutouts that give my suit an captivating geometric, almost artistic shape. I love a band that starts a conversation and teases.
Disgraceful child
Corsets are a great way to show off and accentuate your figure, so I will naturally gravitate towards a Regency style in my swimwear. Models with underwires and a larger corset are naturally sexy, especially when combined with sensual shades such as fiery red or classic black.
Very warm
There’s something fun and nostalgic about color block tubes. One-pieces with chic contrasting details give off a retro vibe that I think is the queen of the rink. And for the record, I love the ice rink.
Suitable for tying
Because swimsuits exploit minimal material, the devil really is in the details. This season I’m leaning towards tied styles, both on the sides for a ruffled effect and on the shoulders for a sweet, country look. The possibilities are endless.
