Authorities say the Oktoberfest Beer Festival in Munich was closed Wednesday morning after bomb threats from a suspected bomb explosion at a home construction north of the city that killed at least one person.

Police said the building was intentionally flammed in the domestic conflict. It was not immediately clear whether the deceased was a suspected perpetrator or someone else. Another person, not considered a danger to the public, remained missing.

Major police and fire station operations began early in the morning after flames were reported at a detached house in northern Munich.

Several German media reports have revealed gunshots and explosions.

Police said the booby traps were found in the building and special forces were called to soften them.

Authorities discovered the bomb threat to Oktoberfest in letters from suspected perpetrators. Authorities searched the Beer Festival fairgrounds for other explosive devices and asked workers to leave the area.

“Due to the threat of unspecified bombs associated with operations in northern Munich, the Festival Ground in Teresienwiese remains closed until 5pm,” Munich police wrote in X.

The Oktoberfest website gave the same update.

This year’s October Fest will begin on September 20th and end on October 5th. The world’s largest beer festival usually attracts up to 6 million visitors.
