Leader in chip production Nvidia plans to set up a $200 million artificial intelligence center in Indonesia in partnership with the country’s second-largest mobile phone provider as it expands into Southeast Asia.
The The artificial intelligence center will be based in Surakarta, a city in Indonesia’s Central Java province, said Budi Arie Setiadi, Indonesia’s minister of communications and information technology, according to a CNBC translation. He added that the center will improve local telecommunications infrastructure and support human resources and digital talent.
In March, Indonesian telecommunications giant Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Nvidia’s artificial intelligence center partner, he announced that he did “ready to integrate the NVIDIA Blackwell platform into its infrastructure to lead Indonesia into a fresh era of sovereign AI and technological advancement.” Adoption fresh Blackwell platform would assist the company “consolidate a paradigm shift in how Indonesia harnesses the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to drive innovation, economic growth and national sovereignty,” it said.
