Lahore, Pakistan:
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that he has an audio recording of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in which he is allegedly heard saying to remove him and bring in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan.
Demanding action against the Supreme Court judges involved in his removal as prime minister in 2017, the 74-year-old three-time former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader also expressed his disappointment over the attitude of the Pakistani people towards him and his batch.
On Saturday, he addressed a party meeting in Lahore where it was decided that he would be re-elected as party president on May 28.
Nawaz Sharif was removed as party chairman after he was disqualified as prime minister in 2017 in connection with the Panama Papers corruption scandal. His younger brother Shehbaz Sharif then took over the helm of the party, after which he resigned last week.
Condemning the disqualification, Nawaz Sharif said nowhere in the world do judges send a prime minister home on false charges.
“I want to ask why I was thrown out of the prime minister’s office,” he said and revealed that he had with him an audio recording of former CJP Nisar in which he was heard saying: “We have to remove Nawaz Sharif to bring in Imran Khan as prime minister.” “Case should be initiated against retired judge Mazahir Ali Naqvi for amassing huge wealth and also against other judges involved in this conspiracy,” he said. The PML-N leader also demanded an independent probe to get to the bottom of the conspiracy against him and his government.
Dissatisfied that Pakistani citizens did not vote for his party in the February 8 general elections, Nawaz Sharif said: “I am asking people… what are you thinking about when you cast your votes. I need answers from the nation.” Similarly, he stated that he was dissatisfied with the nation that remained quiet when he was illegally removed as prime minister.
Nawaz Sharif’s hopes of becoming prime minister for a record fourth time after returning to Pakistan from a four-year self-imposed exile in London last October were dashed when Imran Khan’s party emerged despite fighting an election without the “cricket bat” electoral symbol. victorious.
However, Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N formed a six-party coalition government and Shehbaz Sharif, who calls himself the favorite of the military establishment, became prime minister.
