Miranda Cosgrove recalls an interaction she had with a child iCarly fan, which didn’t necessarily go as expected.
While appearing on Wednesday’s episode Live with Kelly and Markhost Kelly Ripa noted that the 30-year-old actress and singer “hasn’t changed much” since her debut acting role in the 2003 film School of rock at the age of 9.
“Sometimes I do [get recognized]” Cosgrove said in response. “It’s amusing because there was a point where a lot of little kids didn’t really know who I was [iCarly] it hasn’t been turned on for a while. Then Netflix picked up the series and they started replaying vintage seasons.
The Mother of the bride the actress began recalling meeting a newborn fan while recently shopping at Target.
“There’s a little boy looking at me in the toy aisle. He kept looking at me. He was about 7 years vintage,” Cosgrove explained. “I thought, oh my God, he needs to watch the show! And then he kind of followed me around. I thought he would say he watched it. Instead he said, “You’re getting vintage!”
When Ripa reacted in shock, Despicable me the actress added that “the kids are so candid.”
However, the host admitted she “didn’t agree” with the newborn fan, telling Cosgrove: “No, because I’ve been interviewing you on this show for years and you look exactly the same.”
Cosgrove appeared on the popular Nickelodeon show iCarly for six seasons, from 2007 to 2012, after which Carly hosted her own web show with friends Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie (Nathan Kress). She later reprized her role when Paramount+ revived the series for three seasons from 2021 to 2023, which saw Carly as a newborn adult trying to create a webcast with a group of friends while dealing with everyday problems and adventures.
