ChatGPT Edu offers enterprise-level security and control. With the fresh offering, OpenAI aims to responsibly deploy AI among students, faculty, researchers and campus staff. It serves as a low-cost AI model for educational institutions to bring AI to their campuses at scale.
What does ChatGPT Edu offer to universities?
Key features of ChatGPT Edu, as explained by OpenAI, include:
- Access to GPT-4o, our flagship model, distinguished by text interpretation, coding and mathematics
- Advanced capabilities such as data analysis, web browsing and document summarization
- Ability to create GPT, custom versions of ChatGPT and share them across university workspaces
- Significantly higher message limits than the free version of ChatGPT
- Improved language capabilities in terms of quality and speed, with support for over 50 languages
- Tough security, data privacy and administrative controls such as group permissions, single sign-on, SCIM 1 and GPT management
- Conversations and data are not used to train OpenAI models
Commenting on the launch, Kyle Bowen, deputy CIO at Arizona State University, said: “Incorporating OpenAI technology into our educational and operational framework accelerates the transformation at ASU. We are collaborating across our community to leverage these tools, expanding our expertise as a scalable model for other institutions.”
The GPT Store is now available to free users
According to a report by The Verge, custom GPT is now available to free ChatGPT users. But it is constrained to viewing only. This means that free ChatGPT users can access the GPT store, access and utilize available custom GPTs, but will not be able to create a fresh one. This is still only available for ChatGPT Plus and other premium membership plans.
Several features that were previously constrained to ChatGPT Plus users are also available to anyone using ChatGPT. This includes web models and responses, data analysis, graphing, vision, file transfers, storage, and custom GPTs.
