Microsoft and Coca-Cola have signed a five-year agreement to modernize the beverage maker’s technology systems around the world using the Azure cloud platform and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Coca-Cola is committing $1.1 billion to the project, which will also see it test Microsoft 365’s Copilot tool to improve workplace productivity.
“Our long-term partnership has made significant progress in increasing Coca-Cola and its bottlers’ focus on technology. We are excited to support Coca-Cola’s continued adoption of AI using tools like Azure OpenAI Service and Copilot to drive innovation across its operations,” said Judson Althoff, Microsoft executive.
Coca-Cola has already moved all of its applications to Microsoft Azure, and most bottlers have followed suit. They have been using AI for almost a year in areas such as marketing, manufacturing and supply chain. Now they are exploring the operate of AI-powered digital assistants to improve customer experiences, streamline operations, “foster innovation, gain competitive advantage, enhance efficiency and discover up-to-date growth opportunities.”
“This agreement builds on Coca-Cola’s successful partnership with Microsoft on digital transformation,” said John Murphy, Coca-Cola’s chief financial officer.
With this agreement, Coca-Cola gains greater access to Microsoft’s cloud and AI platforms, as well as tools such as Microsoft 365, Power BI, Dynamics 365, Defender and Fabric. This is intended to improve Coca-Cola’s efficiency, scalability and overall innovation.
