Mexico’s Oscar submission lands US theatrical deal

Exclusive: New York-based Cinema Tropical has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to Mexico’s Oscar-winning film. we are not moved (they don’t move us) on the legacy of the 1968 Tlatelolco student massacre.

The film, directed by Pierre San Martin Castellanos and winner of four Ariel Awards, including Best First Feature and Best Actress for Luisa Huertas, was shown in Mexican cinemas for 13 consecutive weeks through Pimienta Film earlier this year, the longest run of any local film this year. Castellanos said the special attracted about 25,000 visitors and was re-opened to the public on October 16th.

Cinema Tropical opens we are not moved The film will be shown in theaters for one week starting November 28th at New York’s Cinema Village, followed by additional screenings in Los Angeles, Tucson, and other cities.

The black-and-white drama stars Huertas, 72-year-old Socorro, as a former lawyer bent on finding the soldier who killed his brother during student protests in Mexico City on October 2, 1968.

Nearly 60 years later, her lifelong obsession has caused a rift in her relationships with her sister and son. As new leads emerge, Socorro embarks on a plan to avenge his brother’s death, risking his family, legacy, and life.

Various Lobos producers Victor Reichegui, Mare Gil and Pablo Zimbrón Alba negotiated the deal with Cinema Tropical executive director Carlos A. Gutierrez.

“Pierre Saint-Martin Castellanos has created a poignant debut film that bridges personal grief and collective memory with remarkable cinematic sensibility,” said director Gutierrez. “We are honored to announce Mexico’s official Oscar entry and continue to introduce important new voices in Latin American cinema.”

“I have we are not moved “Bringing it to U.S. audiences through Cinema Tropical is very meaningful for our beloved film, which had an emotional release in Mexican theaters,” said Director and Producer Castellanos.

Cinema Tropical has provided U.S. audiences with several first-run screenings of films such as: pet dog and And your mother too.
