Fresh York: It’s a proud moment for everyone as eminent designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee created history by becoming the first Indian designer to grace the prestigious Met Gala carpet.
On Tuesday, he attended a fashion show wearing “an embroidered cotton duster from the Sabyasachi Resort 2024 collection, inlaid with tourmalines, pearls, emeralds and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewelery.”
Sabyasachi also posted a video on his official Instagram account of himself posing for photographers on the Met Gala carpet. He struck stunning poses on the streets of Fresh York.
Fans praised him for this huge feat. “The legend is joking himself,” commented a social media user.
“Congratulations… you are a legend,” wrote another.
Well, this year, apart from walking the red carpet, Sabyasachi also designed Alia Bhatt’s outfit for the gala. Alia stunned everyone in a timeless mint green Sabyasachi sari embellished with a long, dramatic pattern.
Alia Bhatt’s custom embroidered sari beautifully interpreted the theme of this year’s Met Gala – ‘Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Awakening’ with ‘The Garden of Time’ attire. The actress was styled by Anaita Shroff.
After attending the red carpet, Alia shared photos on Instagram showing off her Met Gala look.
“We focused on intricate craftsmanship, including hand embroidery, gemstones, and elegant beading and fringe work typical of the 1920s fringe style. Our color palette pays tribute to the beauty of nature, referring to the earth, sky and sea. “We adopted a dainty nostalgia for hair and makeup – a refined hairstyle decorated with intricately woven braids and cushioned freckles – a tribute to the gentle caress of time,” she added.
Alia also talked about the emotional and labor-intensive process of making a saree, saying, “It’s all hand embroidery. “It took 1,905 man-hours and 163 craftsmen to make this set.”
This is Alia’s second appearance at the Meta Gala. Last year, she made her Met Gala debut in a pearl-drenched gown.
