The incident occurred on May 23 around 10 p.m. in the parking lot of a Van Nuys grocery store. According to area residents who spoke to CBS Los Angeles, the explosion was so noisy that it could be heard in all directions.
According to a man who lived just around the corner from the parking lot, the sounds of the explosion could be heard at least a few blocks away and said it “was like an earthquake shaking the windows.”
