Picking up where last summer left off, skin-baring styles are having a moment. The nude look continues to win the hearts of fashionistas, including Bella Hadid, who just wore a sheer Saint Laurent number at this year’s 77th annual Cannes Film Festival. Shorts are becoming more and more popular, A lot shorter – we know that for sure too (oh, hello, warm pants). Exception? Tops. Interestingly, all signs point to the longline style – a silhouette longer than the usual hip-length cut – as the leading style in the upcoming season.
Influencer from Paris Ellie Delphine, which has its finger on the pulse of everything fashion-related, has already signed up to this emerging trend. She referred to this in latest Instagram Reel, which references various other styles that will be in and out of fashion this summer. “Crop tops, butterfly tops… yes, they are very cute, but they are replaced with long-cut blouses,” she says in a video posted on April 17. It’s true: petite, midriff-baring silhouettes are probably meant to run their course.
Delphine first spotted the look during Sofia Richie Grainge’s European wedding weekend in April 2023, when the internet star wore a long, sleeveless linen gown vest from Posse. “From that point on, I slowly started noticing this style of popular brands appearing on Instagram,” the content creator tells TZR. “The trend peaked this spring when every label, from the mainstream to the more niche, jumped on the bandwagon.”
In addition to sleeveless jackets like Richie Grainge, this trend is also available in sleeveless models. One place you can find them? Fan-favorite retailer Dissh has ditched the asymmetrical silhouette longline knit fabric in black and white. Similarly, Reformacja has no shortage of summer linen versions to choose from (we recommend the blue and white versions checkered).
Is that all there is to say? This summer, you can store your crop tops in storage and stock up on long-sleeved styles instead. For styling tips, scroll on to see how six influencers wear it.
Go crazy
Although timeless, the leopard print is especially sought after right now. If you’re looking for an unexpected way to wear this pattern this summer, check out Nicole Huisman’s style here. The content creator layered an extra-long leopard print tank top over a vivid orange maxi skirt, then added more color with pastel blue flats and a vivid pink bag. Expect compliments roll IN.
The sun is coming
Calling all minimalists: step outside your style comfort zone this summer and swap your neutral tanks for a bright yellow style. Pair it with straight leg trousers as shown above; or, if you’re worried about getting drenched in sweat, a breezy midi skirt will also work.
It’s match
If you don’t feel like putting together an outfit, consider a matching set as your secret weapon. Pictured by trendsetter and author Leandra Medine Cohen, this denim version of Aligne’s striped jeans is as versatile as they come (though the top is unfortunately almost sold out). Follow the same styling route as Medine Cohen and wear a two-piece look with brown leather loafers and cat-eye frames.
Set it to the neutral position
Fact: You can always count on an all-black outfit for virtually any occasion. For example, a minimal tunic and flared trousers are a reliable duo. But if it’s too warm for pants, wear bike shorts or capris (if you haven’t heard, they’re back, baby).
Turn it on
If you have shiny, sumptuous jewelry that you want to show off, choose a model with a tube – it will go perfectly with a chunky choker. Keep it nippy downstairs with considerate black shorts and elementary kitten heels.
Show some legs
Your first instinct may be to pair a long T-shirt with knee-length shorts or a maxi skirt. What about the warm pants trend mentioned earlier? As shown here, this combination is worth trying, especially if said pants are puffy. Accessorize with patent leather Mary Janes and a raffia bag (a must-have at farmers markets!).
