Lego releases fresh version of Retro Radio which emulates a classic portable sound system. It scratches the nostalgia itch visually with a mechanical tuner knob, handle, and even an antenna. Reports from Jay’s Brick Blog The $99.99 set, part of the Lego Icons collection, can play pre-loaded sounds or accommodate a smartphone to play anything — but unfortunately Lego skipped implementing a real radio.
The Retro Radio is made up of 906 pieces and includes a special sound block containing a speaker that plays included tunes from phony stations, such as sports broadcasts, which you can interact with by turning the dial. The second knob turns the unit on and there is also a mock AM/FM switch there.
Lego includes some key details of the Retro radio, such as faux wood trim, a mint green casing, an oversized tuner window, and even the classic speaker slots. While it looks like Lego engineers could totally fit it into a transistor radio, you’ll have to make do with inserting your phone to stream AM/FM channels or your favorite oldies playlist.
Retro Radio will be available from June 1, which means you’ll have two weeks to start and complete the LEGO NASA Artemis Space Launch System set, which arrives next weekend.
